Dog Adoption Form

Pre-approval is needed in order to adopt a pet through LAWS. ALL of our dogs and puppies are currently in foster homes and it is important that you apply before we proceed with the adoption process.

Completion of this application does not guarantee the adoption of a pet or a particular pet you are interested in, and it does not commit you to an adoption should you be approved. LAWS does not do first come first serve - we strive to find the best possible fit for our dogs/puppies. Our dog team is 100% volunteer based - please be patient and kind as we are doing the best we can to review top applications for each individual dog/puppy.

The information requested in this application is necessary in assisting with the selection of a new pet. This form, the review process, and follow up conversations with an adoption coordinator are designed to help you find a pet most compatible with your lifestyle.

Please read the following information about our adoption applications:

Housing:

If your current housing situation is temporary, such as a rental, please carefully consider whether you'll be able to take your pet with you to new housing.   The most common reason for relinquishment to a shelter is ‘moving and cannot take with’.

If you have any doubt of your ability to provide a forever home, please consider fostering instead of adoption. We are always looking for feline and canine fosters. LAWS pays all expenses! You can find out more about fostering on our Foster Page.

Household and Age:

** You must be 22 years or older to adopt a dog/puppy from The Laramie Animal Welfare Society - we will ask for proof of verification.

Children under age 6 may have a hard time handling a kitten, puppy or other small animal properly. Squeezing, poking, and other things may cause them to scratch or bite in self-defense which could cause injury.   An adult pet, who is calm and experienced, is a much better choice for young children.

The Application Review Process:

Possible reasons for denial may include, but are not limited to, history of animal cruelty/neglect/abuse, domestic abuse/violence, or sexual assault/abuse; outstanding warrant(s) for arrest; expired vaccinations (unless for age/medical reasons) on current or prior pets, unable to verify property address, unable to reach all of your references and if we discover any discrepancies on your application (such as falsifying your landlord info or contact).  Background checks may be requested.

In submitting this form, the applicant understands that misrepresentation of fact may result in refusal of adoption. The applicant understands that the Laramie Animal Welfare Society is not responsible for the accuracy of information received about the temperament, habits, or physical condition of the animal available for adoption. The Laramie Animal Welfare Society is not liable or responsible for any damage, injury, or accident resulting from the placement of this companion animal.

In submitting this form, the applicant accepts all responsibilities for the health (including the remainder of vaccinations and post-care of spay/neuter surgery if required), housing, feeding, and companionship/well-being of this animal.

Adoption Fees

the adoption fees we collect contribute significantly to our ability to continue this life-saving effort. E ach animal is spayed or neutered; microchipped, de-wormed, and vaccinated according to their age (adults are current on all vaccinations including rabies if over 6 mos of age) prior to adoption unless otherwise stated.

  • Dogs under 2 years old $275, dogs 2 years and up $215 (** plus a $10 application fee paid via PayPal, paid after application has been submitted)
