update on Seele February 2021-  Seele continues to receive bi-monthly acupuncture and exhibits small, incremental improvements after each treatment.  She has more feeling in her feet and toes than ever!  And she now uses her knees frequently while mobile.  She is also attempting to use her feet in appropriate and natural forms.  Even though it seems her progress is slow, it is continuously moving forward and that is exciting.  She still may never walk or have the same mobility as other cats, but her nerves are healing and regenerating and every little step of progress is wonderful.  ❤️

Our special needs foster Seele is approaching her 1st birthday (September) and we are beginning our search for her forever home.  Over the past year she has gone from no movement in her hind legs to enough mobility to get around in her own way.  She receives bimonthly acupuncture and laser treatments (to help nerves heal and begin working) as well as physical therapy and massage.

Seele is a highly intelligent, independent, and gorgeous kitten.  She has a loud purr, loves to explore, likes to snuggle with humans and plush blankets, and prefers a strict routine (we are certain she knows how to tell time).  She is highly opinionated, but seems to understand that she needs assistance on a daily basis.  Seele loves to sit on her pet stairs and watch the squirrels and birds through the door.  She also enjoys camping and is quite the nosy neighbor; she runs from window to window in the camper to see what everyone is doing.  She especially loves sunbathing on lazy afternoons and despite her limitations, is an excellent fly and moth catcher.

Seele will require a home with a lot of love, patience, and enough resources to provide for her ongoing needs.  While she is tolerant of other cats and kittens, she does better with gentle dogs and would do well in a home with few or no other pets.  Seele has minimal control of her bladder and bowels and therefore will require diapers for the rest of her life.  (More detail about her daily routine will be given to serious inquires).  A home with mostly carpeted floors would be ideal as it helps her gain traction and use her hind legs more appropriately.  She also needs cat toys, scratchers, pet stairs, and other items designed to meet her unique needs.  Though not entirely necessary, it would be best if she were able to continue acupuncture, laser treatments, and physical therapy.  Part of the reason she has stayed in foster care so long is to ensure that these treatments were done in order to maximize her nerve growth potential as a kitten.  Is is highly probable that the nerve healing can continue even longer.

If Seele were able to write a list for herself, she would ask for the following:  a very loving, understanding, and patient home, lots of ear scratches and shoulder massages, a private soft sided pet Playpen with plush bed and food and water (for bed time at 8:00 pm and time without a diaper).  Also a pet water fountain with daily fresh water, pet stairs to climb and lookout doors and windows as well as to access furniture, low cat trees and scratchers, lots of toys, plush beds and fuzzy blankets, and yummy nutritious food.  Forgiveness ahead of time for possible scratches or pokes to furniture as independent climbing is attempted.

Seele is a German word (pronounced Zee-luh) meaning Soul.  It was given to her when she was three weeks old and first came to LAWS.  There was just something about the tiny kitten with limp legs that defied her disability.  Her soul was big and strong and amazing.  She is a little character who is full of love and life and has so much to offer.  She has lived up to her name and fills every room she enters with her incredible Soul!

At Laramie Animal Welfare Society, the first step to adoption is completing an adoption application on our website www.laramieanimals.org. Once submitted, your application will be reviewed by our adoption team which typically takes up to 7 days.

Keep in mind, the kitten/cat you’re interested in when applying may be adopted and no longer available by the time your application is approved. We do not place animals on hold.

Pending approval, your application is valid for 6 months. Also pending approval, you will receive contact information, so that you may inquire about the personalities of specific animals.

Due to COVID-19, we are highly encouraging foster homes and adopters to speak with one another via phone or video chat to limit in-person contact. If meeting in person at a foster home or at our adoption center, everyone is encouraged to wear masks and socially distance.

Adoptions for individual animals will occur by private adoption appointment. Because we are 100 % foster-based, appointments are scheduled pending staff, foster home, and vetting schedules.

Should you want to proceed with the adoption, a brief appointment will occur at our adoption center to sign adoption paperwork, receive medical records, and pay the adoption fee.

***COVID-19 Update: While we typically host bi-weekly Saturday adoption events, in order to follow the CDC's recommendation for COVID-19 protocols, we will be suspending our weekly Saturday adoption events until further notice.

We do not do first come first serve but we place the dog/puppy in the best suited home. If you have questions about the Dog/Puppy process please email Dogs@laramieanimals.org**
